John Rea won the 11-and-under age division the Tin Whistles-First Tee Tour event held at Foxfire Golf and Country Club last week and has taken the lead in total points toward the Tour Championship.

Rea, of Pinehurst, posted a level-par 36 for nine holes in the first round, then followed that up with a 40 in the second round to nudge out Ben Chrystler, of Whispering Pines.

Rea holds a 20-point lead over Josh Stockwell in the points race, and is 40 points ahead of Chrystler and John Robert Dunlap.

Players receive points for each event dependent on their order of finish, much like the PGA Tour's Fed-Ex Cup.

The eventual winner will receive the Tour Champion's Trophy at the annual Tin Whistles Christmas banquet.

Bryan Stewart, of Pinehurst, shot 75-78 -- 153 to stave off second-place Patrick Donovan, of Southern Pines, in the boys' 15-17 age bracket.

Josh Stockwell, of Aberdeen, claimed a 12-stroke win with a 173 total in the 12-14 boys' division.

Whispering Pines standout Amanda D'Ostroph had a 36-hole total of 157 to top Kate Mohorn, of Cary, in the girls' 14-17 division.

Caroline Rea, of Pinehurst, scored another victory in the 11-and-under girls, with Savannah Thompson, of West End, taking second.

Justin Emmons, of Asheboro, won the 11 and under boys' orange flight, edging out Noah Bullough, of Vass.

The final two tournaments will be held Aug. 6-7 at Longleaf Golf Club and Aug. 19-20 at Pinewild Country Club.

The Pinewild event is also the Moore County Junior Amateur held in memory of Bill Jones.
