Mary Louise Fishbaugh Mastroe, 93, of Endicott, N.Y., died Sunday, July 20, 2008.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. today (Friday, July 25), at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc., Endicott, N.Y. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today (Friday, July 25) at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.

Mrs. Mastroe was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Syracuse, N.Y., a daughter of the late Gertrude and Russell Fishbaugh. In 1933, she graduated from Nazareth Academy, Rochester, N.Y.

She enjoyed visiting with her family and reading mysteries and animal stories. She was also an avid volunteer. Mrs. Mastroe was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church for the last 59 years, serving as president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a lay lector until 2006, and a eucharistic minister until 2007. She visited homebound parishioners and those in nursing homes.

Mrs. Mastroe was a founding member of the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Johnson City, N.Y., a life member and past president of the Parent Teacher Association at Jennie F. Snapp Junior High School, an active member of the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, a member of the Interfaith Counsel of Churches, a past vice-president of the New York State Legion of Mary, a past vice-president of Senior Citizens, a past treasurer of Visiting Nurses of Ideal Hospital, and board member of the Board of Elections of Broome County. Mrs. Mastroe also worked with the Central United Methodist Clothing Center. She also dressed up as Mrs. Claus during many Christmas seasons.

"She was a loving friend to many people of all ages," says a family member.

Mrs. Mastroe was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Jack, in 1988; an infant daughter, Gertrude Ellen; and a brother, John Joseph Fishbaugh.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ann Giambelluca and her husband, Carl, of Vass, Frances Faith Tarby and her husband, Michael, of Elmira, N.Y., and Mary Louise Pierce and her husband, Willard, of Fayetteville, N.Y.; three sons, John Russell Mastroe, of Eaton, N.Y., Thomas James Mastroe and his wife, Carol, of Johnson City, N.Y., and William Edward Mastroe and his wife, Alison, of Homer, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Humane Society, 2 Jackson St., Binghamton, NY 13903; to the Maryknoll Missionaries, P.O. Box 311, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0311; or to the Moore County Literacy Council, P.O. Box 1966, Southern Pines, NC 28387.

Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, Endicott, assisted the family.
