Using a DNA sample, the Southern Pines Police Department made an arrest in a breaking and entering case that occurred nearly a year ago.
Darrell Fritz Sealy, 43, of Southern Pines was arrested July 16, and charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, attempted larceny from a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and communicating threats.
On Aug. 21, 2007, officers were investigating a breaking and entering of a car in Southern Pines. During the investigation, the officers collected a sample of DNA evidence from the car. The sample was analyzed at the SBI Crime Lab in Raleigh, and a positive match was made, resulting in warrants being issued for Sealy.
On July 16, Southern Pines police officers located Sealy in a vacant lot at the corner of Murray Hill Road and U.S. 1. A search of the suspect led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia. Upon transport to the Southern Pines Police Department, Sealy communicated threats to one of the officers and was charged accordingly.
Sealy was jailed, and his bail was set at $75,000.
