Tickets for the 2008 U.S. Amateur go on sale Monday.
The tournament will be held Aug. 18-24 on Pinehurst Nos. 2 and 4. It is the first time in nearly 50 years that the tournament will be held at Pinehurst Resorts.
The U.S. Amateur, the oldest USGA championship, was first played in 1895 at Newport Golf Club in Rhode Island. The event, which has no age restriction, is open to those with a Handicap Index of 2.4 or lower. It will feature some of the top non-professional golfers in the world. More than 300 golfers will vie for the prestigious title.
Tickets are $15 for a one-day ticket to any round, Monday through Sunday. A flexbook ticket can be purchased for $40 which includes admission to any four days of the tournament. A weeklong, or Season's Grounds Pass is $50. Tickets allow spectators access to the Donald Ross Grill and the No. 2 pro shop. They can be purchased in advance by calling 1-800-795-4653, going online to shoppinehurst.com or visiting the No. 2 golf shop at the Pinehurst main clubhouse. Tickets will also be sold at the gate.
Children age 17 and under enter free with a paying adult and will have access to a Catch the Spirit tent located near the man admission gate.
This is the ninth USGA championship held at Pinehurst and the second U.S. Amateur. The Amateur was last held in Pinehurst in 1962.
