Thirty-six carriage drivers took part in The Carriage Classic in The Pines in sweltering 100-degree heat the first weekend in June. The Carriage Classic, sponsored by the Moore County Driving Club, is held annually at the Pinehurst Harness Track. This year the show was held one month later than previous years.

The highlight of the show for spectators and competitors is the Pleasure Marathon which takes place through the streets of the village of Pinehurst on Sunday morning.

Claire Reid of Southern Pines took home the coveted General William T. Ryder Concours D'Elegance Trophy, awarded to the most elegant turnout, driving her pair of grey ponies.
