The Moore County Genealogical Society is hosting an open house at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Moore County Agricultural Center, located in the Moore County Office Park, 707 Pinehurst Avenue, in Carthage. This is next to Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center.

"Join like-minded folks who share your passion for tracing your family roots," says a spokesman.

From beginners to the more experienced genealogist, a variety of displays and presentations are planned. Those interested can learn how to start researching and how to interview family members.

"Talk to all of your family while they are still with you," says Sarah Currie Thompson, of Jackson Springs, a charter member of the MCGS. "They are a treasure."

Visitors can view show-and-tell items including vintage documents, textile, household and occupational items. Heritage crafts will also be on display.

"Learn about the Moore County Genealogical Society, its history and current projects, including books, newsletters, and cemetery research," says the spokesman. "Even if your roots aren't in Moore County, there will be something to help you with your research. Join us and bring along an item or two that is a piece of your family history."

A hot dog lunch will be provided.
