Participants in the Little Patriots Youth Football Summer Camp are to report to the fieldhouse at Memorial Field in Southern Pines (Morganton Road) between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Monday to be fitted for equipment.
There are still openings for the Monday through Thursday (July 7-11) camp sponsored by Sandhills Optimist Club that runs from 11a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. The football training for kids in grades K through 8 will take place at Pinecrest High School.
The mission of Pinecrest head football coach Chris Metzger and his camp staff will be to provide the best football instruction possible. All drills and sessions will be conducted in groups based on age.
Campers will learn the basics of all positions and get instruction in several phases of the game, including strength, speed, agility, special teams skill work and offensive and defensive drill work.
Camp attire is shorts, T-shirts, athletic socks, cleats and running shoes. Campers should bring lunch and plenty of water each day.
The cost is $125 per participant (checks payable to Sandhills Optimist Club). No child will be excluded because of financial hardship. For more information, call coach Metzger at (239) 248-0808.
