Another 'D' University

Congratulations to Andy Thomas on his Dartmouth 50th class reunion.

I just returned from my own 50th reunion. The university was the other "D," as in DePauw, of Greencastle, Ind.

Our class gift, the largest in DePauw's history, was $30,112,357. We had 59 percent of our classmates returning, another record for a 50th reunion.

Other highlights of the four-day festivities:

A concert by the Four Freshman (not the original, as they have celebrated 60 years of performing).

Our '58 class speaker was Dr. Ferid Murad, Nobel Prize Winner.

It was the best! Vernon Jordan said last year at my husband Don's 50th, "We gathered here 54 years ago in the morning of our lives, and today we gather in the evening of our lives."

Indeed, it has been a remarkable journey.

To top this off, our grandson, Ted, will be a freshman at DePauw, third generation -- where his parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and great-uncle attended.

Here's to you, DePauw!
