Thursday, June 19, the Vass Lions Club hosted its annual awards and installation dinner at the Woodlake Country Club.

Presiding at the meeting, President-elect Ed Thomas presented the Phil Delozier Humanitarian Award to John Brown.

Thomas announced the winner of the Aubrey Leon Keith scholarships -- Sandra Suzanne Bley and Stormy Nicole Jessee, who was present with her parents.

Both girls are graduating seniors of Union Pines High School.

Carl Gambelluca, a Melvin Jones Fellow, announced that Lion Judy Kerr had been recognized for her outstanding service, by the Lions Club International Foundation as a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Terry Kerr, a past district governor presided over the induction of the following officers: Ed Thomas, president; Betty Fondrie, first vice president; John German, secretary; Earl Quam, treasurer; Al Bickoff, Lion tamer; Jim Paul tail twister; Walt Nestvogel, membership chairman.
