Jamie Lovemark and Cameron Trinagle shared medalist honors for the 108th North and South Men's Amateur Championship qualifying with 5-under-par 136 Tuesday at Pinehurst Resort.

Lovemark, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., shot 66-70, while Trinagle, of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., shot 67-69. Lovemark won the medalist honors in a playoff.

Defending champion Phillip Mollica of Anderson, S.C., was seeded No.1 in the match play, which begins today. He plays No. 64 seed Adam Long of Wentzville, Mo., in a match that began at 7:30 a.m.

Lovemark, seeded No .2, takes on Robert Riesen of Pinehurst at 9:38 a.m. Riesen, a rising senior on the University of North Carolina golf team, shot 71-75--146, and had to survive a 14-man playoff that advanced 13 players.

Joining Riesen as the only other local player to make match play was Kelly Miller, president and CEO of Pine Needles Resort. Miller, who was spotting most of the players several years in age as well as yardage off the tee, followed a first-round 68 on the No. 4 Course with a 73 on No. 2 to finish at even par.

Miller, 49, is seeded 10th and takes on Bill Rankin of Ann Arbor, Mich., at 10:26 a.m.

Paul Simson, a veteran player from Raleigh who won back-to-back North and South titles in 1995-96, also advanced to match play, shooting 69-75--144.

Hunter Howell of Raeford also advanced, shooting 73-72--145.

Local players not making the cut were Robert Hoadley of Southern Pines at 76-71--147; Michael McGowan at 75-73--148; Jack Fields of Southern Pines at 76-73--149; and Eddie Peckels of Pinehurst at 74-75--149.

All match play is being held on the No. 2 Course, site of the 1999 and 2005 U.S. Opens. A double round will be played on Thursday, followed by quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and a 36-hole final round on Sunday for the title.

Both rounds were contested on Pinehurst Nos. 2 and 4, the same two layouts to host the U.S. Amateur Championship this August.Pinehurst No. 4, a Tom Fazio design, played both days at 7,048 yards, par 70. No. 2 played at 7,346 yards, par 71 more than 100 yards longer than the 2005 U.S. Open.

* Sack Byrd of Raleigh, N.C., eagled the 18th hole of No. 2 Tuesday to make the cut by one stroke at 145

* Andrew Guiliani of New York, N.Y., made the cut with 76-67--143

* All four members of the second-ranked Southern Cal team that were in the field advanced to match play: Lovemark, Rory Hie, Bo DeHuff and Tom Glissmeyer all shot under par in today's round

* 1995 and 1996 North and South Amateur champion Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C., shot 69-75--144 to enter match play

* Drew Younts of Stokesdale, N.C., fired 67-70--137
