Southern Pines police are searching for a man who robbed a bank near U.S. 1 and Poplar Street Tuesday afternoon.
At about 4 p.m., officers received a report of a robbery at RBC Centura bank. A man entered the bank and demanded money. Police said the suspect was not armed.
The man was wearing a long black coat, a black stocking cap, blue jeans and sunglasses. He is described as being between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall with a slim build.
After leaving with an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect got into a gold GMC Yukon and drove south on Poplar Street. Police later recovered the car, which had been reported stolen.
Police said that images taken from security cameras have been turned over to the FBI. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call investigators at 692-7031 or leave an anonymous tip on the Sandhills Crime-Stoppers line at 295-8878.
