The Aberdeen office of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol office is looking for a new trooper.
It will hold a job fair at the office Saturday.
"We are concerned that collisions could increase without the proper number of troopers patrolling the roads," Trooper Mark Helms said. "Also being short-handed puts a dangerous strain on the personnel on the road as they try to cope with calls in such a large area."
Trooper Randy Roberts, a recruiter for the patrol, and Helms, a public information officer, will be at the office Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with recruiting and traffic-safety displays.
Helms said that he also hopes to increase awareness about the Highway Patrol's Victim Fatality Memorial link on its Web site and let local residents know that if they have friends or family killed in an accident that he is available at (704) 320-8326 to speak with the bereaved.
