Martin, Hoadley, Win EJGA Titles

Joshua Martin of Pinehurst didn't just win his division in the Eastern Junior Golf Association event held at Legacy Golf Links last weekend, he blew the field away.

Robert Hoadley of Southern Pines shot 73-72--145 to claim a two-stroke victory over Will Almand of Cary in the 16-18 Division.

Russell Burke of Pinehurst tied for 14th with 157, while Justin Evens was at 167.

Martin, competing in the Boys 10-11 Age Division, posted rounds of 63-66 for a 36-hole score of 129 that was 28 strokes better than runner-up Eric Bae of Raleigh. Bae shot 78-79--157.

Conner Davenport of Pinehurst was third at 178, followed by Patrick Gallagher of Southern Pines at 204.

Drew Johnson of Oak Ridge won the 12-13 Division with 73-76--149. Davis Womble of High Point was a shot back at 150 after a second-round 74. Zachary Martin of Pinehurst shot 76-75--151 for third place.

Bill Herring of Lillington shot 74-69--143 to win the 15-15 Division by five shots over runner-up Dillon Shoe of Trinity. Dylan Harris of Southern Pines placed fifth with 161. Slade Davenport of Pinehurst was at 207.

Kaitlyn Rohrback of Crofton, Md., shot 68-73--141 to take a 10-stroke win over runner-up Katie Kirk of Davidson in the Girls Division. Courtney Rousse of Holly Springs was third with 153.

Caitlyn Morrone of Pinehurst was at 164, while Kristyn Morrone of Pinehurst was at 167, with Samantha Gilder of Pinehurst at 168.

Mid Pines Senior: Keith Waters, an amateur from Raleigh, shot 72-68--140 to win the Mid Pines Carolinas PGA Senior Open Tuesday and Wednesday. The final round was delayed an hour and 25 minutes because of rain.

CPGA Hall of Fame professional Bob Boyd of Wilmington claimed second place with a rounds of 72-69. David Eaker of Forest City, whose 71 led the first round, was third at 144.

Amateur Spike Smith of Pinehurst tied for sixth with 149. Ken Eichele of Pinehurst tied for ninth with 150. Bob Klug of Pinehurst tied for 14th with 152, while Herb Pike of Pinehurst was at 156 and Chuck Daley of Whispering Pines was at 157. William Hiner of Pinehurst shot 163.

Murray Stern of Pinehurst won the Super Senior Division with 80-74--154, a stroke better than Leroy Rabon of Irmo, S.C. Russell French of Pinehurst tied for fourth with 157.

Dean Donley of Whispering Pines tied for ninth with 159, while Herb Conway of Whispering Pines was 11th with 161. Dick Wilson of Whispering Pines was at 170, while James Dockery of Southern Pines shot 174.

This was the first of nine senior events the CPGA is holding this year. The next will take place at Old North State in New London March 31-April 1.
