Charles Darius McKenzie, 72, of Ellerbe, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Culdee Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James Watson and the Rev. Joey Byrd officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. McKenzie was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Moore County, the third of ten children born to Patrick and Magdalene Ritter McKenzie. He was raised in the Eastwood community of Moore County, where he attended school, served eight years of duty in the U.S. Army National Guard, and was a member of Culdee Presbyterian Church.

He retired from Summerville Chevrolet in Michigan, after 32 years of service. Mr. McKenzie enjoyed restoring cars, gardening, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick McKenzie; and three brothers, Pete, Tony and Wesley McKenzie.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his mother, Magdalene, of the home; 11 children, Pamela Lynthacum, of West End, Wesley McKenzie, of Rockingham, Mike McKenzie, of Ellerbe, Diane McKenzie, of Troy, Patricia McCormick, of Ellerbe, Lee McKenzie, of Troy, of Lawndale, Doris McLemore, of Pontiac, Mich., Mary Wherry, of Genesee, Mich., Betty Scism, Crystal McCurry and Cindy Grayson, all of Lawndale; three stepdaughters, Linda Damman, of Manistique, Mich., Pat Chervus, of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Diane Slone, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 26 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dan McKenzie, of Durham, Larry McKenzie and Ronald McKenzie, both of Eastwood, and Irwin McKenzie, of New Buffalo, Mich.; and two sisters, Marcia Fowler, of Pinebluff, and Brenda Fields, of Statesville.
