Mustang Boys Drop Tourney Opener

The North Moore boys' basketball team is playing Providence Grove today in the consolation round of The Courier-Tribune Christmas Tournament being held in Asheboro.
The Mustangs dropped a 66-31 decision to Trinity High School on Saturday. Host school Asheboro handed Providence Grove a 62-45 defeat In the tournament's opening round.
North Moore (5-5) and Providence Grove tipped off at 2 p.m. this afternoon. Regardless of the result, both teams will play a third game in the tournament Tuesday.
In North Moore's opening round game, the Mustangs fell behind the Bulldogs early thanks to a 19-4 run to close out the first quarter after the team's traded three-pointers to begin the game.
A combination of good defense and poor shooting limited the Mustangs to just four points in the third quarter, leaving the Mustangs facing a sizable 49-19 deficit entering the fourth quarter.
Chris King scored a game-high 20 points to lead four Bulldogs scoring in double figures.
Rashad Brower led the Mustangs with eight points.
