The N.C. Department of Transportation has redesigned its Web site, www.ncdot.gov, to make it easier for users to find the information they need about transportation in North Carolina.
NCDOT launched the new look on Monday, Nov. 3.
"People across the state and around the country access our Web site for a wide range of information, including traffic conditions, construction projects and DMV activities," Transportation Secretary Lyndo Tippett said. "This revised site is more user-friendly and easier to navigate."
Changes to the Web site include:
- An improved layout that groups content based on commonalities, not an organizational chart;
- Explanations of key NCDOT terms, programs and projects so users will know the content of a link before they click on it;
- A new "Newsroom" page, which features the latest news about the department, facts about the transportation modes and useful Web links;
- Lists of "Frequently Asked Questions" tailored to the "Contact," "Business," "News-room" and "Travel & Maps" sections of the site to better answer queries; and
n A new color scheme, which cleanly and clearly designates areas of interest.
NCDOT focused on redesigning the home page and the secondary tiers of the site for the launch. The department will continue to work on revamping the remaining tiers in the coming months.
