Cori Bell, a sixth-grade student at New Century Middle School is the winner of the 2008 Peace Poster contest.

Her artwork was judged best of the nine art finalists: Steven Atwood, Matt Cooper, Ashley Lytle, Nick Lopez, Jake Madrid, Alan Myer, Shannon Pratt and Hope Whitesides. Entries were judged on artistic merit, originality and a clear expression of theme.

On Dec.11, Cori Bell and her family were honored at the Vass Lions Club banquet at the Woodlake Country Club.

Cori states that the girl in the poster represents herself. The answer to her prayers has arrived with overwhelming power. The blessing of peace has fallen on her. She wishes to share it with the world through her art.

For the past 10 years, Cheryl Stuckey, the school's art teacher has encouraged students to envision world peace. Last year, Nina Rhoades' poster was judged best at the local, region and state level.

Lions Clubs International chooses a different theme each year. This year the theme was"Peace Begins with Me."

Lions Clubs all over the world sponsor similar contests. The grand prize winner receives a trip to an international award ceremony and a cash award of $2.500.
