19th Hole: Letter Applauds Patriot Foundation

The Patriot Foundation does good work, mainly because of patriots such as Chuck Deleot, the president/chairman of the board of the group who works ceaselessly to assure its success.

The most visible part of the year-round effort is the 36-hole Patriot Pro-Am and Sunbelt Tour golf tournament that is held annually at National Golf Club. But what it's really all about is the charities that benefit from it.

Funds raised are used for scholarships to aid children of the 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and children of active, retired and former Army Special Operations soldiers.

The six-year-old event has increased its donations each year, presenting checks in October totaling $100,000. This does not go unnoted by military officials who are grateful for the life-altering gifts.

Deleot, a retired Naval Reserve captain, recently received the following letter from Maj. Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, commanding general of the Army:

"It was my great honor to join The Patriot Foundation for their annual Patriot Charity event. On behalf of more than 20,000 All American Paratroopers and their families, thank you greatly for the generous contribution The Patriot Foundation made in helping care for the children of our men and women killed in defense of our nation's War on Terror. Your generosity will directly assist the All-American Strategic Response Force Association in their efforts to help defray the cost of a college education for these Gold Star children.

"In a nation of 300 million people, there are a select few who, in my opinion, are moved to such great lengths in displaying their grateful appreciation to the Golf Star families left behind. The citizens of The Patriot Foundation clearly understand the sacrifice our paratroopers willingly made on behalf of our nation's security; your powerful gift is proof positive that The Patriot Foundation gets it.

"Moreover, your efforts to help us ensure that these children grow up knowing the dream of a college education is within their grasp. As a father myself, I have a greater peace of mind knowing that the folks like The Patriot Foundation exist to help take care of our fallen paratroopers.

"The Patriot Foundation is a special organization that I am privileged to know. Please extend my grateful appreciation to the patriots among your ranks as they clearly exemplify the duty and honor of true American Patriots. We are honored to know that men and women like you remain committed to helping us care for the families of those brave souls who have paid the ultimate price of our freedom.

"You have my greatest respect and admiration."

Deleot was appreciative of Scaparrotti's recognition.

"Even though I have been working this for six years and know firsthand how we are making a difference for soldiers' families, a letter like this emphasizes how important our effort is, and the depth of appreciation from those we help," Deleot said.
