North Moore split a Yadkin Valley Conference basketball doubleheader with Chatham Central Friday in Robbins.
The boys improved to 2-0 in conference play with a convincing 63-45 win over the Bears, while the Mustang girls dropped a 63-44 decision to the visitors.
In the boys' game, the Mustangs (5-4 overall) used a stifling defense to outscore the Bears 24-7 in the third quarter, including a 12-0 run to open the second half.
Jonathan Person scored 22 points to lead the Mustang attack, while Antonio Thomas added nine points. Harold Chandler and John Spivey had eight points each for the Mustangs.
In the girls' game, Sienna Courie scored 26 points to lead the Bears to the win, including 11 in the third quarter when Chatham Central broke the game open with a 22-9 spurt. Shakora Brower led the Mustangs (3-6 overall, 1-1 conference) with 17 points.
