Wrap it Up for Sandhills Animal Rescue League (SARL) at Goody's Department Store in Southern Pines to raise funds for the shelter during the holiday season Dec. 20, 21 and Christmas Eve. All packages are wrapped for a generous donation to the nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter. These monies will be utilized to continue to feed, shelter and pay for increasing veterinary bills. Visitors to the area can indulge their botanical interest while enjoying an enriching stroll through the 32-acre Sandhills Horticultural Gardens on the campus of Sandhills Community College. Designed and maintained by students in the landscape gardening program, the site contains 14 themed gardens. Open from dawn to dusk all week. Located at 3395 Airport Rd., Pinehurst.
The Sandhills Natural History Society meets the fourth Monday of each month at Weymouth Woods Auditorium. The society sponsors a wide variety of field trips focusing on birds, butterflies, wildflowers and other aspects of Sandhills nature. Call 692-2167, or visit www.sandhillsnature.org.
