A Hoffman man died Friday in a one-vehicle accident on Indiana Avenue in Aberdeen.

According to State Highway Patrol Trooper J.C. Boroughs, William Robert Upchurch, 29, was headed south on Indiana Avenue at an excessive rate of speed at about 11:54 p.m.

The 1988 Nissan ran off the right side of the road, came back on and then ran off the left, Boroughs said. The vehicle struck two pine trees and overturned, partially ejecting the driver.

"He over-corrected," Boroughs said.

Upchurch, who is formerly from Southern Pines, was the only one in the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt, Boroughs said.
