On Sunday, Dec. 7, Artist Alley will host a trunk show for Pinehurst fabric and fiber artist, Patti O'Day.

This event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and O'Day will be present throughout the afternoon to meet the public and discuss her work.

O'Day has been working with fabric for the past 37 years. She started this craft in San Francisco, Calif., when her son was young and she was a single parent. This allowed her to work from home during off hours and take him with her when she visited stores or participated in craft shows to sell her wares. During the past eight years, her lifelong passion has evolved into her signature line of handbags and accessories.

"I make handbags and sport/travel accessories out of upholstery fabric," says O'Day. "Most are made from two contrasting or compatible fabrics. My overall theme is 'Be kind to your back and neck, carry a lighter bag,' which is why I avoid leather and potentially heavy metal dcor. I design the patterns, pick the fabric, cut, sew and embellish all of my creations. I truly love what I do, and I believe that I make a difference in the lives of the woman that I serve."

O'Day's creativity is fueled by her fondness for fabric. The colors, textures and flexibility of this raw material never cease to amaze her. She enjoys artfully combining different patterns, and she loves to see its transformation into a three-dimensional functional piece of artwork. O'Day also has a passion for golf, and her participation in the sport allows her to have unique insight when designing golf-themed bags and accessories.

"Patti's trunk shows are always a favorite for her collectors," says Artist Alley owner, Jean Skipper. "She brings a huge variety of selections that will be available for one day only at Artist Alley.

Many of these pieces will be perfect for holiday parties or gift giving."
