Moore County sheriff's deputies arrested a Southern Pines man Sunday on charges of firing a weapon at an occupied vehicle.

Deputies arrested Loren Robert Ellis, 29, during a vehicle stop in Jackson Hamlet.

The Sheriff's Office had received a report of a shooting into an occupied vehicle in Jackson Hamlet on Nov. 16. Deputies found bullet holes in Douglas Harris' car. Harris, 35, is a Southern Pines resident.

Deputies took out warrants on Ellis that day for shooting into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon. However, it wasn't until Sunday that deputies stopped Ellis while he was driving in Jackson Hamlet.

He resisted arrest, said Capt. Jeff Medlin. Deputies found a stolen gun in his possession, Medlin added.

"He tried to run," he said.

In addition to serving the warrants, deputies charged Ellis with possessing a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

He was jailed with an $85,000 bond.
