Vike Harriers Sweep Jags

Both the Viking girls' and boys' cross country teams won their Cape Fear Valley Conference meets Wednesday in the season opener, at Union Pines to go to 1-0 on the year.

The Vike boys defeated the Overhills Jaguars 20-39. Jag Phillip Vance won the meet with a time of 18:37. Union Pines then took places two through 12. Viking Brandon Peeken finished second with a time of 18:43 and sophomore Joseph Morris came in third.

The Union Pines girls beat the Jaguars 17-45. Vike sophomore Brittany Steven won the race with a time of 22:55, senior captain Victoria Glenn captured second and sophomore Courtney Voss finished third. Overhills only had three runners in the top 12 (fourth, seventh, ninth)

Both Union Pines teams will be participating in the Jungle Run Invitational, 6 p.m. this Saturday, in Fayetteville at South View High School. The Vikings return to conference competition Wednesday when they host Southern Lee
