The Pinehurst Garden Club is having a strong start to its 2008-2009 year, thanks to the community and the generous support of the Pinehurst Garden Club plant sale this past spring, says a spokesman.

The new officers of PGC have gathered and plans are underway for another year of opportunities to meet, to serve the community, and to learn more about the area and the unique techniques for gardening here in the Sandhills. Plans are under way to continue the beautification projects in the Village of Pinehurst, the care of the Given Library Memorial Garden, support of Weymouth, Pinehurst Village Arboretum, as well as Pinehurst Village Parks and Recreation.

In addition to these projects, one of the major commitments of the Pinehurst Garden Club has been to offer the gift of a full scholarship to one recipient at the Sandhills Community College Landscape Gardening Program. The 2008-2009 recipient is Charity Cox who will be able to participate in this nationally recognized program due to the community support of the Pinehurst Garden Club.

The Pinehurst Garden Club has been in existence since 1981 and currently has five branches with a total of 120 members. There still are a few openings in various branches of the Pinehurst Garden Club.

"If you are a full-time resident of the geographic boundaries of the village of Pinehurst and would be interested in membership in the club, please contact Pat Clark at 295-3764," says the spokesman.

To support projects of the Pinehurst Garden Club, donations can be sent to P.O. Box 4006, Pinehurst NC 28374.
