The Pinecrest High School boys' soccer team traveled to Charlotte on Saturday to participate in a pre-season Soccer Jamboree hosted by Mallard Creek High School.

Twenty-four teams from across the state took part in the event, which featured each team in three 50-minute scrimmages.

Pinecrest brought 31 prospective Varsity players, which allowed Coach Larry Martin the opportunity to test the new and returning players against similarly motivated competition.

Pinecrest came away with ties against Audrey Kell (0-0) and West Forsyth (1-1) and a 3-2 victory over defending State 3A Champions Lake Norman.

Goals came from rising seniors John Kropp, Matt Caricker and Brent Foote and rising junior Jack Talton. Goal tending was handled by senior Matt Scott and new arrival Lewis Cable.

Pinecrest will play in one more preseason multi-team Jamboree this Friday evening at Panther Creek High School in Cary. Games start at 5:45 p.m. with Pinecrest facing hosts Panther Creek, then squaring off with defending 4A champions Broughton at 7:30 p.m. and finishing with an 8:15 p.m. match with Durham Jordan.

The match-up with Broughton High School is particularly interesting as they ride a 50 game unbeaten streak that includes repeat State Championships and the No. 1 high school ranking in the nation.

Pinecrest will officially kick off their season on Monday, Aug. 18, over in Fayetteville against Terry Sanford High School and will open their home schedule the following week with a Monday, Aug. 25, game against Lumberton at the John Williams athletic field.?
