Manhunt Under Way in Moore County
Moore County sheriff's deputies searched the Lobelia area Tuesday for a man wanted for a string of break-ins and robberies who has repeatedly evaded capture.
Chief Deputy Neil Godfrey said that deputies have several warrants on Eric Callahan. Officers from Harnett and Lee counties also have warrants on the man, Godfrey said.
Moore County deputies spotted a person they thought was Callahan driving a stolen car Monday. He jumped out and ran away on foot. He had previously eluded capture from Harnett County deputies.
Moore County officers believe they spotted him in another stolen car Tuesday, and he again bailed out and ran into the woods.
"He may have since stolen another (vehicle)," Godfrey said.
Search dogs and the State Highway Patrol helicopter assisted deputies in canvassing the area.
"We're running an intensive manhunt in Lobelia," Godfrey said.
Callahan is wanted for several break-ins and store robberies in the three counties, Godfrey said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 947-2931.
