Birdie: By Denise Drum Baker, an art professor at Sandhills Community College, for organizing the exhibit Crossing the Atlantic, a unique program that features postcard correspondence between folks from our community and the Newry Institute in Northern Ireland. The project culminated recently with a weeklong visit by a delegation from County Down, who were here to explore the possibility of a sister-city relationship with Southern Pines. These visitors came away impressed with our Southern hospitality. Way to go, Denise. You're an ambassador and "instigator" for the Sandhills.
