The Pinecrest boys' golf team tightened its hold on first place in the Mid-Southeastern Conference with last week's victory at Scotch Meadows. Monday's scheduled league match at Stryker Golf Course on Fort Bragg was postponed until Thursday because of poor weather.
The Patriots' Jack Fields earned medalist honors with a 2-under-par round of 70 at Scotch Meadows. Combined with a 72 by Russell Burke, a 75 by Justin Evans and Patrick Barrett's 76, the Patriots posted a team score of 293. Richmond County was second at 302, followed by Jack Britt, 314, Scotland, 327, Hoke, 482, and Westover, 489.
Two of the Patriot golfers holed out shots for eagles. Burke had his second shot take one bounce before finding the cup on the par-4 16th hole. Evans chipped in for an eagle on the sixth hole.
Later in the week, Barrett joined Fields and Burke as players that have shot rounds in the 60s for Pinecrest this season. Barrett earned medalist honors with a 4-under-par 68 in an invitational tournament held at Keith Hills that included Ravenscroft, Green Hope and Broughton. Fields was also under-par with a 70. The Patriots finished third with a team score of 290 behind Green Hope (284) and Ravenscroft (287).

O'Neal was scheduled to play Village Christian at home on Monday, but the match was postponed because of rain. The Falcons were scheduled to play against Westchester Country Day School at High Point on Tuesday.
