Moore County sheriff's deputies arrested an Eagle Springs man Monday and charged him with shooting a man in the groin.

Deputies charged John Wille Ingram, 44, with attempted murder.

They had responded to an address on Sand Pit Park Drive in Eagle Springs on Sunday and found Charles Cooper with a gunshot wound to the groin area.

According to Chief Deputy Neil Godfrey, Cooper told officers that he had been in his house when someone threw a rock through his window. He went outside, and Ingram was waiting for him.

"He said he shot him with a .22 caliber rifle and then walked off," Godfrey said.

Deputies charged Ingram with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, secret assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was jailed with a $200,000 bond. His first court date is April 28.

Godfrey said that deputies don't know what the motive in the shooting was but that the two men "definitely knew each other."
