Birdie: By Linda Pearson, hard-working executive director of the United Way of Moore County, for putting the "fun" in fundraiser by creating the Tour de Trike. The inaugural tricycle race, which generated about $6,000 for the nonprofit, was a big success and promises to grow in the fuure. Despite Thursday's rainy and raw weather, about 200 hardy souls lined New Hampshire Avenue between the Ice Cream Parlor and the Jefferson Inn to cheer the participants. Had the event been held a day earlier under sunny skies and 75-degree temps, the turnout would have been triple that. We can hardly wait for the second edition of the race. Great work, Linda.
