Mary Francis Redmond, 81, of Pinehurst, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at The Village Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Elllis officiating.

Mrs. Redmond was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Muskegon, Mich., a daughter of the late Lyman and Marie Heyer Fink. She was raised in Owosso, Mich., across the street from her future husband, Ralph.

While living in Flint, Mich., she was active with the Flint Institute of Art. She and her husband were avid tennis players. Mrs. Redmond was a past president of the Oak Brook Tennis Association in Illinois. She enjoyed playing tennis, both singles and doubles, with her husband as long as he did not attempt to "coach" her while they were playing.

"Mary was smart, witty, compassionate and beautiful," says her husband. "Mary was the love of my life and our children were the final complement to her already full and wonderful life."

Mrs. Redmond is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Ralph Redmond Jr; three sons, Ralph Redmond III, of Indiana, Jeffery L. Redmond, of Pinehurst, Gary L. Redmond, of Illinois; a daughter, Maria LaNoue Fernitz, of Illinois; and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe sent to FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374, the Alzeheimers Association, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC, 28215, or to the APDA Asheville Chapter, Attn. Margie Grissom, 236 Sweetwater Hill Dr., Hendersonville, NC, 28791.

Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst, is assisting the family.
