The April dinner program for the Sandhills Branch of the English-Speaking Union will be held Wednesday, April 11, at the Country Club of North Carolina. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
The program will be presented by Dr. Theodore H. Leinbaugh, a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he holds a Bowman Gray Professorship. He is a distinguished scholar in the field of medieval English literature, specializing in the writing of Aelfric, which preceded the creation of the Beowulf saga.
Leinbaugh is an undergraduate of Yale and earned his doctorate at Harvard. He has been involved with the Marshall Scholar Program. This program is an expression of Britain's gratitude for the economic assistance received through the Marshall Plan after World War II.
In recognition of his work with The Marshall Scholar Program, he was awarded membership In The Order of The British Empire and was presented to Queen Elizabeth.
