An international award for financial reporting has come home to Moore County for the 18th time.
County Finance Officer Lisa L. Hughes accepted the award during a meeting of the Moore County Board of Commission-ers earlier this year.
Ken Chavious, past president of the North Carolina Govern-ment Finance Officers Assoc-iation, said it was the 18th consecutive year that Moore County has received the award.
"That's an amazing accomplishment," Chavious said. "Lisa Hughes put in an extraordinary amount of extra work for this."
Chavious, who is Orange County finance officer, made the presentation on behalf of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting recognizes "government units and public employee retirement systems whose comprehensive annual financial reports achieve the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting."
The award recognizes Moore County for financial reporting of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005. The county's 2006 report has also been submitted for consideration in the next round of awards.
Hughes introduced members of her staff and pointed out that the award recognizes the work of the entire financial services office.
"Lisa, we love you. You do a good job," said Board Chairman Colin McKenzie.
