A new business in the Sandhills area will deliver restaurant food to your door.
Servers on the Run is owned and operated by Joe Lafferty who realized a need exists after talking to his retired in-laws.
Lafferty says the thought struck him one day: "I wish we had more choices of restaurant delivery in the area." That's where the idea came for his new business.
Lafferty has 18 years of restaurant management experience with major chain restaurants along the East Coast. His wife, Barbara (phone dispatcher), has 10 years of restaurant experience.
For many years, his wife also worked in a doctor's office as a nurse. She says she hated those times when someone was chosen to go pick up lunch for the office. Other than the annoyance of standing in a fast food line or standing at a bar waiting for the food to be prepared, there were those days when it was cold and rainy.
They opened their phone lines and Web page recently.
The Web site, www.serverson therun.com, is designed especially for restaurant delivery services.
It is a very user-friendly site in which consumers can look at all the participating restaurants and their menu items. It provides descriptions of menu items and prices, just as if they were in the restaurant. It will even ask what kind of salad dressing or what kind of toppings they prefer on baked potatoes, according to a news release.
The Web site will let customers type in their addresses and choose a form of payment.
Also, customers can call (910) 255-6616 and place the order by phone. Customers can also receive restaurant menus by calling this number.
Lafferty, new to this area, says he is excited about his new venture. He was the general manager of several restaurants that used this type of service in the Raleigh and Virginia Beach, Va., areas.
"There is a real need for Servers on the Run in this area," he says. "People are just as busy here as they are in a bigger city. I feel that there is a niche for this service in the area. I eventually plan to expand delivery area and the number of restaurants participating."
