How Did Navy Read It?

In her March 23 column on the proposed Navy landing site, Florence Gilkeson wrote:

"In light of the Base Realignment and Closure report (BRAC), one wonders why some of the 'closure' sites could not be put to better use than to reach into an area rich with wildlife and historic farmland distributed to the first owners under land grants from the Lords Proprietors during the reign of King Charles II in the 17th century."

Well, obviously the Navy misread the memo: They think BRAC stands for Buy Real estate Anyway you Can. Somebody ought to tell them we're also running out of real estate.

It wouldn't bother me as much if they weren't so hard-headed about it and wasting our tax dollars while doing it. And any family that can hold onto its land since the Colonial days deserves a medal. That's good stewardship.
