The Moore County Kennel Club was well represented by several members and their canines at the 131st Annual Westminster Kennel Club's All-Breed AKC Show in New York City recently.

CH Clussexx Crayola Crayon (Willard), a gorgeous Clumber Spaniel, co-owned by Beth Dowd of Pinehurst, won Best of Breed in the Sporting Group. Willard was the No. 1 Clumber for 2006. Other owners are Douglas Johnson, Wayne Holbrook and Aaron Ow.

CH Geordan Tiger Lily (Lily), a feisty Irish Terrier, co-owned by Cecelia Ruggle and Carol Dowd of Pinehurst, along with two others, also pulled off a Best of Breed in the Terrier Group. Lily was the No. 1 Irish Terrier for 2006.

CH Laststop Sosa Fabulous (Roo), a sweet Pembroke Welsh Corgi, won Best of Opposite Sex in the Herding Group. Roo was the No. 1 Pembroke Welsh Corgi for 2004, 2005 and No. 2 for 2006. Roo's breeder is Carol Dowd; owners are Carol Dowd and Beth Dowd.

Betty Chapman and Beth Verner, owners and breeders, did quite well with their homegrown terrier, CH Caraway Celebrate Life (Covu), a stately Soft Coated Wheaton, who took a Best of Breed in the Terrier Group. Covu holds the Breed record as the Top winning Wheaton.

"Just to be eligible to compete at Westminster is in itself an honor and takes many years of selective breeding, showing and much care to produce these canine specimens," says a spokesman. "These dogs each represent the ideal of their own specific breed, and it takes hard work and persistence to get to the Big Apple and Westminster."

Club President Steve Watson says that he and the other Moore County Kennel Club members congratulate their exhibitor members.

"We are very proud of these winners who represent the club in such an auspicious manner," he adds.
