A Pinecrest High School student died in a car accident early Monday morning.

Morgan Elizabeth Warner, 16, who has a Biscoe address but lives in Moore County, died when her 1983 Jeep Wagoneer ran off the road, partially overturned and struck a tree.

Her 11-year-old brother, Johnathan Warner, was in the car with her at the time and had to be taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. A helicopter later took him to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he is listed in good condition.

The accident occurred just beyond the Moore County border on Brewer Road in Montgomery County, according to Trooper C.A. Smith, who investigated the accident for the State Highway Patrol.

Smith said that Warner drove around a curve going 60 mph at about 7:19 p.m. and ran off the road to the right side, then overcorrected and ran off the road to the left.

The truck began to overturn and struck a tree, caving in the top of the vehicle.

The truck was too old to be equipped with airbags. Both of the riders were wearing seat belts, Smith said. The boy was able to climb out of the vehicle and asked witnesses to call for help, Smith said.

Warner was a member of the Pinecrest tennis team and the Interact Club.
