The Union Pines wrestling team went 2-3 at Saturday's Riverside Duals held in Durham.

The Viking wins came against Wakefield, 54-24, and Cardinal Gibbons, 44-38. Tony Fernandez (135 pounds) and Joey Beck (160) were each 5-0 for the Vikings.

In a battle between the No. 1 ranked 3-A team and the No. 2 4-A squad, Parkland defeated Riverside 39-27 in the championship match.

Last Thursday at home, the Vikings defeated Overhills 57-12 for their third Cape Fear Valley Conference victory in a row.

Kaleb Rierson got things started for the Vikings in the 189-pound bout with a first-period pin. Teammates Dan King (285), Billy Talley (125) and Doug Roach (140) also dispatched their opponents within the first two minutes, and Aaron Breassealle (145) pinned his foe early in the second period.

Another Viking, Tyler Crowley (152), earned a 6-4 decision, and Sean Foran (112), Fernandez (135), Beck (160) and Nick Capps (215) picked up six points each for their team by forfeits.

Union Pines took a 4-2 record into its last regular-season conference match at home against Harnett Central on Tuesday. The Vikings will host the conference tournament on Saturday.
