Homer C. "Pete" Mace, 80, of Sanford, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, after an extended illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ladies Parlor at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Mr. Mace was the son of the late Dennis C. and Ruby Pickard Mace. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific. He attended Campbell College where he was an outstanding football player. After college he joined his father in the family electrical business, Mace Electric Company. Following the death of his father, he served as president of the company until his retirement.
His brother, Harold Mace, and sister, Connie Burke, preceded him in death.
Mr. Mace is survived by his wife of 52 years, May Stone Mace; his son, Peter C. Mace and his wife, Joanne, of Southern Pines; two grandsons, Justin Mace and Sterling Mace of Southern Pines; a sister, Zelma M. Hargrove and her husband, H.R., of Weldon; brothers, Herbert, Lindy and his wife, Patricia, Clarence and Jimmy, all of Sanford; a brother in-law, Larry Burke of Atlantic Beach; nieces, Brenda Wood, Angela Burke, Annette Burke, and Andrea Mace; nephews, Mike Hargrove, Lee Hargrove, David Mace, Chris Mace, Patrick Mace, and Dennis Burke.
