The Thomasville High School basketball teams invaded Robbins on Friday and came away with two decisive victories over their Yadkin Valley Conference opponents from North Moore High School.
The Thomasville girls' team defeated North Moore in the first game of the evening by a score of 66-34, and the Bulldogs won the nightcap over the North Moore boys, 89-58.
In the girls' game, Thomasville employed a zone press, and succeeded in forcing numerous Mustang turnovers. The Bulldogs committed a number of turnovers themselves in the first quarter, and led by five points at the end of the period, 11-6.
Thomasville continued with the pressure defense in the second quarter, and increased its lead to 10 points at the half, 26-16. However, the Bulldogs took advantage of several Mustang turnovers in the third quarter, outscoring North Moore 24-7 and taking a commanding lead at the end of the third period, 50-23, then continued to dominate through the fourth quarter to win by 32 points.
Thomasville had five players in double figures. McMaster, Tate, Roy, Brady and Davis had 15, 12, 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs. Allison Braswell led North Moore with 15 points, including 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. North Moore's record dropped to 3-3 in the conference (8-7 overall).
The boys' game followed much the same pattern as the girls' contest.
Thomasville scored 11 unanswered points before the Mustangs could get on the board. The Bulldogs used a 1-3-1 trapping zone press, and forced a number of North Moore turnovers. Thomasville led at the end of the first period by a score of 21-10, and extended its lead to 15 points at the intermission, 39-24.
The Bulldogs continued to dominate in the third quarter, getting a number of transition baskets following turnovers by North Moore, and working the ball inside to their big men underneath for easy baskets. Thomasville, with their superior height, dominated both backboards.
The Bulldogs substituted freely in the final quarter, and won going away by 31 points.
Thomasville had four players in double figures. E. J. Abrams-Ward and Zach Perry each had 17 points, and Chris Woods and Trey Ray contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs. For the Mustangs, Tony Brower had 11 points and Marshallrett Ross added 10.
North Moore's record dropped to 6-8 for the season, and it is 2-4 in the conference standings.
North Moore is scheduled to play South Davidson at home next Friday.
