Mustangs Split Against J-M Jets

The North Moore High School basketball teams traveled to Siler City on Tuesday, and came away with one win and one loss against Yadkin Valley Conference competitor, Jordan-Matthews High School.

The Mustang girls edged Jordan-Matthews 43-41 in the opener, while the Mustang boys dropped a 73-62 clash to the Jets.

In the girls' game, North Moore held Jordan-Matthews to only a single field goal in the first quarter to lead by a score of 8-2 at the end of the period. The Mustangs increased their lead to eight points at the half, 22-14. The two teams played even throughout the third quarter, but Jordan-Matthews rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs, 16-10. North Moore held on to win by two points.

Allison Braswell was high for North Moore with 15 points, including seven for nine from the free-throw line in the final period. Brittany Harper added 11 points for the Mustangs. Asiaj Nettles scored a game-high 19 points for Jordan-Matthews and Jennifer Dameron added 11 points for the Jets. North Moore's record improved to 9-6 for the season, and it is 3-2 in the conference.

In the boys' game, the Mustangs played even with the Jets in the first half. North Moore had a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 12-11, but Jordan-Matthews came back to tie the game at the half at 24 points apiece. In the third quarter the Jets pulled away, outscoring the Mustangs by 11 points to lead at the end of the third period by a score of 50-39. The two teams played even in the final period, but the Mustangs could not narrow the gap, and Jordan-Matthews prevailed by 11 points.

Jerome Maness led all scorers with 19 points for North Moore, and Ryan Chisholm added 18 for the Mustangs. Charles Tysor led the Jets with 15 points, including 10 in the third period when the Jets rallied for 26 points to take the lead. Maurice Eubanks and Kasey Glover added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Jets.

Jordan-Matthews' record improved to 8-6 with the win (2-2 in the conference), while North Moore's record dropped to 6-8 for the season (2-3 conference).

North Moore is scheduled to play Thomasville at home tonight in a doubleheader.
