Moore County Parks and Recreation Department sponsored the annual round-robin Christmas Invitational tennis tournament held on the courts of Union Pines High School.

The fall edition of the county recreation program had 27 players enrolled. The tournament was contested in three flights: Championship, Presidential and Governor.

Skill advancement has been dramatic in all three categories, said program director John Frye, as the matches featured long rallies with a marked increase in consistency and pace.

In the Governor's flight, five champions were recognized: Melissa Tally, Sammantha Marsh, John Dangerfield, Brittany Gordon and Laura Cameron.

Jay O'Connor won championship honors in the Presidential flight. Cannon Walden was runner-up and Jon Fondrie was the consolation champion.

In the closely contested Championship flight, Dillon Rice edged Will Fondrie and Stampley Walden to earn top honors. Fondrie finished as runner-up and Walden as consolation champion.

Frye directed the tournament. He was assisted by Joseph Lynch and Jordan Gray.
