Raymond A. Shannon, 78, of Carthage, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Stalnaker officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Seven Lakes.
Mr. Shannon was born July 18, 1928, in Queens, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. He graduated from Fordham University with a degree in psychology. He worked in Manhattan as a police sergeant until his retirement. He lived in Carthage for many years and was known to all his friends and neighbors as "Uncle Ray."
Mr. Shannon is survived by his nephews, Raymond F. Daly and his wife, Deborah, Ed Daly and his wife, Nancy; his nieces, Rene MacBride and her husband, Garret; and several grandnieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery, c/o Carol Richardson, 360 Richardson Rd., Carthage, NC 28327.
Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes is serving the family.
