Moore County high school basketball will be well represented in state tournament play that begins for the boys on Monday and the girls on Tuesday.

In NCHSAA action, the North Moore boys (9-15), a wild-card selection from the Yadkin Valley Conference, will travel to Cherryville (20-4), the first seed from the Southern Piedmont Conference.

Also on Monday, the Pinecrest boys (12-14), the fourth seed from the Mid-Southeastern Confer-ence, will be away against Southeast Raleigh (14-13), the second seed from the Greater Neuse Conference.

Tuesday's games have the North Moore girls (16-10), the third seed from the Yadkin Valley, traveling to Raleigh Charter (4-15) the second seed from the 1A/2A Mid-State Conference, and the Union Pines girls (14-10), the third seed from the Cape Fear Valley, making the long trip to Rocky Mount (14-9), the second seed from the New 6 Conference.

All games are set for 7 p.m. The winners will play second-round games on Wednesday (boys) and Thursday (girls).

Seedings and wild-card qualifiers for the NCISAA state tournament (independent schools) were to be determined today.

If the Triad Athletic Conference regular-season champion O'Neal girls (21-3) land one of the top-four seeds, they would get a first-round bye. If not, they will play a first-round game at home on Tuesday. A bye would put them in a quarterfinal game held at Carolina Day School in Asheville on Thursday.

The O'Neal boys (8-16), the third-place team in the TAC in the regular season, are hoping to receive a wild card for the state tournament.
