Jack Cole, 79, of Laurinburg, died Thursday, April 5, 2007.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at East Laurinburg Church of God, with the Rev. Jeffery McGirt officiating. Entombment followed at Scotland Cemetery.
Mr. Cole was born in Raeford on May 2, 1927, a son of the late Jessie and Pearl Furr Cole. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He worked in textiles for Waverly Mills for 30 years, and for the Campbell Soup Company for 10 years. He was a faithful member of East Laurinburg Church of God, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing.
"He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends," says a family member.
Mr. Cole is survived by his wife of 60 years, Julia Katherine Snipes Cole, of the home; two sons, Jerry Cole of Maxton, and Gregory Cole of Laurinburg; three daughters, Jackie Cole Dunn of Hamlet, Jay Cole Locklear and Susan Cole Chavis, both of Laurinburg; a brother, Bobby Cole of Lampoc, Calif.; a sister, Louise Kellis of Aberdeen; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
