Articles of Faith: 'Moore Jesus' Unity Service and Worship Concert Set for Friday

"Moore Jesus" Unity Service and Worship Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 6, at the Pinecrest High School Football Stadium. Admission is free.

The featured speaker will be Chip McAulay, a recent graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. McAulay, who toured with Christian rock band JITOA and traveled as a speaker for over 15 years, now lives in Seven Lakes and serves as an assistant pastor at Sandhills Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Southern Pines.

Worship music will be led by singer-guitarist Kevin Baker of Grace Church in Southern Pines, Amy Ivy (keyboardist) of Sandhills Presbyterian Church, and Macky Kyle, minister of music/senior adults at First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.

The event is sponsored by Moore County Pastors in Prayer, "a representation of all church denominations praying together for over 12 years," a spokesman says.

Eagle Springs Baptist

Eagle Springs Baptist Church, located on N.C. 211 in Eagle Springs, will hold special Easter services.

On Maundy Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m., the church will have a special communion and worship service. The schedule for Easter Sunday begins at 7 a.m. with a sunrise service in the cemetery located behind the church. There will be a breakfast served in the fellowship hall immediately after the sunrise service.

Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the morning worship service at 10 a.m.

Fellowship of Churches

The Sandhills Fellowship of Churches will meet Tuesday, April 10, at noon at Trinity A.M.E. Church on West Pennsylvania Avenue in Southern Pines.

The March meeting marked the 30th year of service of the Sandhills Fellowship. The Coalition for Human Care was begun from this organization as were many other outreach programs.

Special Services

Christ Church Anglican, 144 West Gate Dr., Pinehurst, will hold Maundy Thursday services April 5, at 5 p.m., Good Friday services at noon, and an 11 a.m. worship service on Easter Sunday, April 8.

Holy Week Services

New Covenant Fellowship will hold Holy Week services Thursday, April 5, through Sunday, April 8.

Maundy Thursday will be a Passover Seder led by the Rev. Glen Stancik. Good Friday will be a communion service led by the Rev. Marty Dufell, and Saturday will be a prayer and worship service lead by Pastor Lee McKinney. All services will begin at 7 p.m.

Resurrection Sunday services will begin with a sunrise gathering at 6:30 a.m. at the church cemetery. Regular Sunday worship will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Bethlehem Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 8, followed by Sunday school at 8 a.m. and worship (with communion) at 9 a.m.

Shady Grove

Shady Grove Holiness Church will hold an Easter sunrise service Sunday, April 8, at 6 a.m. The church is located on N.C. 211 east of Aberdeen. The church will be celebrating its 75th anniversary with services nightly through April 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Revival Services

Dover Baptist Church in Seagrove will hold revival services Sunday, April 15, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. with the Rev. Grady Blakely as speaker. Services will continue Monday, April 16, with the Rev. Jimmy Anderson speaking; Tuesday with the Rev. Gary Rutherford speaking and Wednesday with the Rev. Brantley Moore speaking. The weeknight services are at 7 p.m.

Trinity A.M.E. Zion

Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, 706 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines, will held a service of intercession and meditation at 6 p.m. Friday, April 6, followed by praise and worship at 7 p.m. and a sermon at 7:30 p.m. from Elder Darryl Harris, pastor of End Time Harvest and Deliverance Ministries in Carthage.

Holocaust Service

The entire community is invited to join the Sandhills Jewish Congregation, which meets at Temple Beth Shalom in Foxfire, in observance of Holocaust Remembrance Day Sunday, April 15, at 3 p.m.

The event will begin with a brief memorial service, followed by guest speakers Dr. Zohara Boyd and Dr. Peter Petschauer. Holocaust Remembrance Day is a time for remembrance, education, and advocacy on behalf of the six million Jews, and five million non-Jews throughout Europe, who were killed by the Nazis from 1933 to 1945. It is a day that has been set aside for remembering the victims of the Holocaust and for reminding everyone of what can happen to civilized people when bigotry, hatred and indifference reign.

Professors from Appalachian State University, guest speakers Dr. Zohara Boyd and Dr. Peter Petschauer, will discuss their childhood experiences during the Holocaust. Boyd was born in 1942 in a Jewish ghetto in Poland. She will discuss how her family was able to escape the ghetto, obtain false papers and survive until the end of the war by "walking on the Aryan" side, hiding in plain view by posing as a Polish Catholic family.

Petschauer will talk about his father, who was a diplomat in the SS army, and he will share his childhood experiences growing up during this time.

Boyd is a retired English professor and is currently the co-director of The Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies at Appalachian State University. Petschauer is emeritus professor of history at Appalachian State University.

New Services

New Direction Outreach Ministries of Vass, under the pastorship of Linnie M. Saunders and Associate Minister Eric T.Thomas, will be having Easter service Sunday, April 8, at 11:30 a.m.

Beginning in April, services will be held every first and third Sundays at 4 p.m. Every second and fourth Friday night at 7:30 p.m., youth services will be conducted by Minister Eric T. Thomas.

Minister Eric T. Thomas Assistant Manager of Aris Smith, and Made Men of Laurinburg announces the group's second anniversary beginning April 7, in Rockingham, at the Leak Street School at 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 8, at Pinecrest High School Auditorium during the "Moore Jesus" event. Holy Week Services

Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines has scheduled a variety of services in celebration of Holy Week. They are as follows: Wednesday, April 4, 7 p.m., Tenebrae service; Thursday, April 5, 7 p.m., Maundy Thursday service; Friday, April 6, noon to 3 p.m., Good Friday service.

The church's Easter Sunday schedule on Sunday, April 8, will begin with a "Great Vigil of Easter" service at 6 a.m., immediately followed by breakfast and an egg hunt. Easter Festival services with Holy Communion will be held at both 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Holy Week opportunities at Bethesda Presbyterian Church include:

West End Methodist

West End United Methodist Church, located at 4015 N.C. 73 in West End, has several events scheduled to celebrate Holy Week, the period of time between Palm Sunday and Easter.

In remembrance of Maundy Thursday, April 5, an informal service will be held in the church's fellowship hall at 7:30 p.m., which will combine music, scripture, and a devotional message with the service of Holy Communion.

Good Friday, April 6, will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary with a dramatic reading, "It is Finished : the passion of Christ according to the Gospel of John," combined with hymns.

On Easter Sunday, April 8, a sunrise service will be held in conjunction with the West End Baptist Church at the West End Cemetery. Only an 11 a.m. worship service will be held at West End Methodist Church on Easter Sunday.

Culdee Services

On April 5, there will be a Maundy Thursday service. This will be a communion service.

The Easter sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. in the Culdee Cemetery. Following the service, breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall. At the 11 a.m. service, Pastor Chris Bobo will deliver the Easter message.

Choir Performs

First Baptist Church in Aberdeen will host the India Children's Choir Sunday, April 8, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Pleasant Hill

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Camp Easter Road will have an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. for the children.

On Easter morning, the annual sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast. Sunday School will be at 8:30 a.m., and regular morning worship service will begin at 9:30 a.m. The adult choir will perform a cantata, "It's Majesty."

Sandy Grove Bible Church of God in Vass will hold revival Wednesday, April 4, through Friday, April 6. Elder David Bullard of Aberdeen will speak.

Bensalem Events

Bensalem Presbyterian Church in Eagle Springs will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m., followed by a cookout. All ages are invited.

The church will celebrate Easter morning at its annual sunrise service and breakfast. The service begins at 7 a.m., with breakfast to follow. The regular morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m.

Village Chapel

An Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. on the lawn of the Carolina Hotel is being offered jointly by the Carolina Hotel and The Village Chapel. The Chapel Choir, directed by John Shannon, will be singing, and Dr. Glenn Miller will present a Meditation.

Service times will be changed for Easter, April 8, as follows: 8 a.m., Communion service; 9:15 a.m., family worship service, with special music by "A Joyful Noise" and "The Chapel Chimers"; 11 a.m., traditional worship service with special music by the Chapel Choir. Dr. Glenn Miller will speak on "Why Are You Weeping?" at all three Easter services.
