Whispers, the women's club of Whispering Pines, held its first luncheon of the 2006-07 year on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Country Club of Whispering Pines.

The program was a fashion show fundraiser organized by Barbara Eschmann and her committee and presented by Linda Taylor, owner of Lookin' for Linda, a specialty shop carrying clothing for both men and women, on U.S.1 in Vass.

Seven Whispering Pines residents modeled to piano music by Beth Nelson. Janet Clark, Barbara Eschmann, Dee Heine, Sandy Manninen, Nancy O'Connell, Barbara Orefice, and Lillie Townsend showed three outfits, each mostly for daytime wear. Two beautiful flower arrangements, handmade by Silk Sensations, a silk flower shop across the street from Taylor's store, were raffled off as door prizes.

During the business meeting prior to the luncheon. Whispers President Marion Outland announced philanthropic donations for the 2005-06 year. A total of $7,000 was given to five designated charities: Lifeline, Cameron Boys Camp, Moore Women Who Care, Sandhills Meals-on-Wheels, and Sandhills-Moore Coalition for Human Care.

The next meeting will be a quiche luncheon and program, "All About Astrology," given by Whispering Pines resident, Jean Rich, a former New York City astrologist. Reservations can be made by sending a check made out to "Whispers" for $13 to Florence Keith, 40 Shadow Lane. For questions call Molly Taylor at 949-3438. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the club will be taking a special collection for Moore Women Who Care. All women of Whispering Pines and their guests are welcome to attend the programs.
