Scotland County feasted on the undermanned Pinecrest football team to the tune of 70-0 at John Williams Field on Friday night.

The Patriot defense gave ground grudgingly on the first Scot possession of the game, which ended with a one-yard touchdown run by Justin Williams.

After that, the Scots began picking up yards in big chunks, bolting to a 56-0 lead at halftime.

After throwing the ball sparingly in its first four games, the Patriots (0-5)went almost exclusively with the pass with quarterback Chais Beloso operating from the shotgun formation.Coach Larry Adams didn't call the team's first running play until late in the second quarter.

Beloso,a junior, was playing in his first game afterjoining the team two weeks ago. He completed 13 of 25 passes for 176 yards and three interceptions. A 47yard strike to Josh Scales in the second quarter took the ball to the Scot eight yard line, but the drive endedon an interception.

Scotland (4-1) sat down its starting players about midway throught the second quarter. The game was the Mid-Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

Union Pines Football

The Union Pines football team bolted out to a 27-7 lead against Overhills before escaping with a 40-34 victory in a wild one at Wilhoit Stadium on Friday night.

Fullback John Gallimore scored four touchdowns, helping the Vikings pick up their first league win in the second year of the Cape Fear Valley Conference.

Kicker Aaron Breasseale accounted for 10 of the Viking pointson field goals of 24 and 26 yards and four extra points.

The visitors (0-5)cut into the Viking lead with a late first half touchdown and another at the start of the second half, making it 27-20. The win in the first conference game for both teams improves the Vikings to 3-2.

North Moore Football

South Davidson defeated North Moore 24-16 Friday night at Briggs Stadium in Denton to win its Yadkin Valley Conference opener.

The victory snapped a 25-game losing streak for the Wildcats, extending back to 2004, according to The Lexington Dispatch.

North Moore falls to 0-5 with the loss.

The Mustangs will host Chatham Central at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
