Men will have a new place to shop near Pinehurst.

Jos. A. Bank is opening in Olmsted Village. It's one of three new stores coming to the shopping center. All three should be open this fall.

Jos. A. Bank plans to open in the Camellia Parke Shoppes area of Olmsted. It should open in early November, according to a press release put out by the Olmsted Village Co.

It sells men's clothing and even retains the services of an on-site tailor. The 101-year-old company has 345 stores in 40 states. The company Web site says that it offers "classically styled tailored and casual clothing, and prices typically 20 to 30 percent below our competitors."

Headquartered in Hampstead, Md., the chain claims that it can keep prices low by cutting out the middleman and buying directly from factories and workrooms. It offers a satisfaction guarantee with every product.

The Olmsted store is part of Jos. A. Bank's plan to expand to 500 stores nationally by 2007.

Marty McKenzie, developer of Olmsted, said that Jos. A. Bank corporate office decided to place a store near Pinehurst because it keeps track of the zip codes of people who make purchases. Pinehurst and Southern Pines zip codes kept popping up.

"The president of the company said, 'Go put a store there,'" McKenzie said.

Opening in different parts of Olmsted this fall will also be a store called Communication Solutions that is the Sprint dealer for wireless phones and data networks. It will open in Olmsted Village West.

In the Fairsted Artisan Village, a shop called the Butterfly Cottage is opening. It will sell home and garden accessories, plants, specialty hams, cheeses and candies.

Olmsted Village is located in Taylortown, just outside of Pinehurst on N.C. 211.

"We are very excited about the new stores opening and particularly a quality and nationally acclaimed store like Jos. A. Bank," McKenzie said, "not only for Olmsted Village, but for the whole area."

The village consists of two strip-shopping centers that include small shops, restaurants, an Eckerd Drugs and a Lowes Food. Behind those two buildings is a Homewood Suites Hotel and the Biltmore Professional Center. Down the hill are several buildings that provide office and retail space.

Camellia Parke Shoppes and Fairsted Artisan Village are the newest areas of Olmsted. Camellia Park is intended to expand to more than 90,000 square feet and will be entirely retail and dining.

Fairsted Artisan Village is named in honor of the Boston home of Frederick Law Olmsted, the man who designed Pinehurst and then lent his name to the shopping center. It's intended to be a home to arts and crafts shops.

The shopping area is intended to remind people of the Pinehurst village center. McKenzie said that it doesn't just serve the people of Moore County, but also attracts customers from Sanford, Biscoe, Albemarle, Rockingham and beyond.

"Within 50 miles of here, 1.1 million people are now living. This market is unique," he said.
